CRICKET UPDATE
1st XI narrowly lost at ‘Royd by 2 wkts. Lots of batters got starts but nobody managed a game winning big score. Adeel with 5 and Ibby with 3 being the wkt takers. Plenty of positives in another close loss.
2nd XI won for the second week running beating Thornton by 3 wkts. Batting 1st the visitors collapsed from 83 for 3 to 176 all out, Peel jnr taking 6 wkts, Burke and Holding chipping in with 2 apiece.
Thirty’s from Clarke, Ashton and Holding set Blackley on their way, Dowley finishing the match off with a 6 allowing him to go watch the football!

Sunday Section - Rained off

After the close and early season ‘exodus’ of players things seem to have settled down at HQ. The players’ attitudes and performances suggest that things are taking a turn for the better, following the 1st’s narrow loses to Thornton and Mytholmroyd respectively, the 2’s winning two on the bounce and the Sunday Section doing well in between the rain showers.
In the words of Ron Pickering when commentating on Daley Thompson’s bid for Olympic gold “when the going gets tough the tough get going, oh ye of little faith

BLACKLEY 1st XI CROWNED 2009 TOWERGATE HALIFAX PREMIER LEAGUE CHAMPIONS
It finally happened, Blackley have won the top division for the first time in their history!
Courier report

The winning of the Premier Division capped a fantastic ‘on-field’ effort by all teams in the 2009 season. The 2nd XI finished a creditable 4th in the top section for 2nd XI’s and the Sunday Section narrowly missed out on the championship, finishing 2nd to Norden, also in their top section.
Blackley’s 20/20 team once again qualified for the semi-finals at Triangle, but again lost to Jer Lane.
2009 will be a tough act to follow, but hopefully the players, old and new can once again raise the already high standards at BCC.
